    Hello Sebastian,

Which 3ds Max version are you using?

This sounds as if InstaLOD Pipeline and 3ds Max have limited file access permissions to the InstaLOD Pipeline folder.

Please verify that you have read and write permissions for the InstaLOD Pipeline folder when running 3ds Max.

    Thanks,

    Erhan

hello, thanks for the fast response...

    i am using 3ds Max 2019

i just checked again and i have full read/write permissions for the InstaLOD Pipeline folder (admin) or do i have to set it differently than default?

    Hello Sebastian,

No special file permissions setup should be required if InstaLOD Pipeline is located on the Desktop or in the Documents. However, such an issue could occur if the InstaLOD Pipeline folder was created with admin privileges but 3ds Max is running with normal user privileges. Please try running 3ds Max as an administrator to see if that resolves the problem.

Could you also verify whether you have *.batch.json files in the InstaLOD Pipeline folder?

Typically, if no batch files are found (or checked in the Batch tab), InstaLOD should output an error that says "No Batch Profiles Active".

    Thanks,

    Erhan

    Hello,

    still not working...

I started 3ds Max with as admin and checked if there are batch-files (this is what i found)

is there a problem that they are not named .batch.json? -> at least this would make it clear why i can't find any batch configs...

    Hello Sebastian,

The files in the screenshot seem to be the example batch profiles shipped with InstaLOD Pipeline.

To create a batch in 3ds Max, please right-click the mesh operation execution button and select "Save as Batch-Profile...". Then enter a name and save the batch in the InstaLOD Pipeline directory. This is also mentioned in our documentation:  https://InstaLOD.com/GettingStartedWith3dsMax/#creating-batch-operations

Could you explain what you want to do and which exact steps led to the aforementioned error?

    Thanks,

    Erhan

    Hello Erhan,

    Okay, creating Batch-Profiles works now...

i now created some profiles and want them to run in 3ds Max...

but there still is this problem, that i can't get output meshes -> a.t.m. i am just trying to reproduce your tutorial-steps in your video (4 pre-set profiles and trying to run them as batch or even as a single operation)

according to the log the profile seems to load properly but it's not able to convert the temp-export-model -> so i don't get an output mesh (and i also tried starting 3ds Max as admin)

    Thanks for the help,

    Sebastian

    Hello Sebastian,

what kind of geometry are you trying to optimize? Does the script work as expected when creating a primitive shape like a sphere or teapot and run the operations on them?

Please make sure that there is no additional errors output at the beginning of the Console log when the operation starts. Some errors are also logged into the MAXScript Listener (can be opened by pressing F11 on the keyboard). Please post any messages that are logged by InstaLOD for 3ds Max.

Also, could you please verify that a tmp_max_export.fbx file is generated while doing your operation. The file should be generated in the InstaLOD Pipeline folder when the operation starts and deleted when the operation ends.

Make sure that the FBX import/export plugin is loaded correctly in 3ds Max (Customize -> Plug-in Manager -> FBXMAX.DLU must be set as loaded).

    Thanks,

    Erhan

    Hello Erhan,

i am trying to optimize assets for VR-applications... so very different geometries and lots of them. -> It works as expected when i export my 3ds Max files as fbx, import them into InstaLOD Studio and put the exported outputs from there back to 3ds Max; it's just the plugin that does not work properly...

i tried it with a sphere and a teapot, too.

sphere and still the same error

    with the teapot, too.

the MAXScript Listener did not log any errors (tested it if it throws an exception if no geometry is selected and there it works fine)

The only file that is generated in the Pipeline folder during operation is the MAXScript.is

and the plugin is loaded correctly, too

    i hope it's detailed enough

    Thanks,

    Sebastian

    Hello Sebastian,

Thank you for the detailed description.

The issue is caused by incorrectly parsing directory names. It will be resolved in the next update of InstaLOD for 3ds Autodesk Max. For now, you can work around this by putting InstaLOD Pipeline into a directory that does not start with the letters "t", "r" or "n". For example, having InstaLOD Pipeline in the directory C:\Users\Public\textureAutomation\InstaLODPipeline\ would fail.

    Thanks,

    Erhan
