Vertex welding is a crucial feature to fix broken or messy geometry such as overlapping vertices and superfluous UV splits. It can be an important preprocessing step that improves the topology of a mesh prior to optimization, enabling InstaLOD's optimizer to produce even better results.
Setting up vertex welding
InstaLOD Studio provides multiple ways to access vertex welding:
- Through the 'Mesh' menu after selecting the target meshes.
- After creating a profile, through the 'Mesh Toolkit' (MTK) operation.
- After creating a profile, as part of the optimization (OP) settings.

The 'Welding Threshold' welds vertices that are below the specified distance. The 'Welding Normal Angle' prevents welding of normals if the angle between the welded normal and the wedge normal is above the specified angle in degrees.
As vertex welding works on a per-part level, individual parts need to be combined first before they can be welded with one another.
