About this document
This document explains InstaLOD’s use of wide-area networks for data communication and licensing. We understand that your data is confidential and transmission over networks is unwanted. That is why all data processing that is done by non-cloud-based InstaLOD applications are run locally on your computer, workstation, or on-premise servers.
Keeping your data to yourself
At InstaLOD we take great care in keeping your data secure. If you own a commercial InstaLOD license, your data belongs to you, and to you alone.
Whether you are processing data via InstaLOD Studio XL, any of our Integrations, or InstaLOD Pipeline - none of your data is uploaded to our servers or stored off-premise at any time. Your data is always processed and kept on your local machine.
All tools that are not run in the cloud process data on the computer that is running the process. These applications include:
- InstaLOD C++ SDK
- InstaLOD Studio XL
- InstaLOD Pipeline
- InstaLOD Pipeline SDK
- InstaLOD for Autodesk Maya
- InstaLOD for 3ds Max
- InstaLOD for VRED
- InstaLOD for Unity
- InstaLOD for Unreal Engine 4
- InstaLOD for Blender
When using InstaLOD Grid, tasks are encoded in a binary format before being sent off to a processing node. This means that your data reaches your InstaLOD Grid processing node without direct external access to your 3D data.
Communication Scenarios
There are two scenarios when InstaLOD communicates with our servers:
- InstaLOD requests a license activation for a workstation.
- InstaLOD communicates with our activation servers to ensure the validity of the license or to request an updated license.
All communication is done through an SSL internet connection on port 443 with the hostname api.InstaLOD.io. Please ensure that your firewall allows your workstations to send and receive data from this endpoint.
If these communications are not possible due to your machine not having an internet connection, please contact your account manager.
License Activation Procedure
To acquire a license, InstaLOD creates a license activation request that contains an identifier that allows our technology to uniquely identify the machine. This identifier is typically provided by the operating system. Depending on the platform and operating system version it can be built by InstaLOD using identifiers such as the MAC address of the primary network adapter or the hostname. In any case, the resulting identifier is encrypted before it is sent to our server. If the authorization request is successful, the server replies with a license file that can only be decrypted by the designated machine.
