When attempting to process large scenes it can seem as though InstaLOD is stuck at a specific percentage for longer periods of time giving the impression as though the software has frozen.
Wait for response
If the OS gives the alert "...is not responding" simply click "Wait for the program to respond". This alert is an automated behavior generated by windows and can appear even if the software is still processing.
Compared to other software solutions InstaLOD is very robust and does not easily freeze or crash while processing from software instabilities. Typically it is a matter of just waiting for the process to finish.
To check if InstaLOD is still processing you can check the following:
- If the viewport is responsive (is not always the case)
- If the task manager shows CPU usage from InstaLOD
If InstaLOD crashes, this is typically due to lacking system memory. When processing large scenes, large amounts of system memory might be required. If not enough RAM is available, InstaLOD will redirect its resources to use virtual memory. The amount of available virtual memory needs to be set up manually by the user within the OS. If not enough RAM or virtual memory is available, this can lead to a crash.
We recommend 8GB of RAM for regular-sized scenes and >16GB of memory for large file sizes.
