About this document
An InstaLOD Grid network can be set up quickly without any dependencies on third-party tools. InstaLOD Grid requires the configuration of a Server and one or more processing Workers.
Prerequisites for InstaLOD Grid
To set up an InstaLOD Grid Server or processing Worker, InstaLOD Pipeline must be installed on the target machine. InstaLOD Grid should not be installed as a privileged user as it does not require elevated access rights to run. Make sure to install InstaLOD Grid for a user with non-administrative permissions.
No additional software is required to set up an InstaLOD Grid server via InstaLOD Pipeline.
InstaLOD Pipeline can be executed from the command line with various program arguments that determine whether it runs as a Server or Worker. For information on how to install InstaLOD Pipeline, please consult the InstaLOD Pipeline user-manual.
The target machine will require an active internet connection that can communicate with the InstaLOD licensing servers.

Disk Space and Storage Considerations
Both Server and Workers need to store the data they process. An InstaLOD Grid Server receives tasks from clients and dispatches them between its processing Workers. Input data is stored on the InstaLOD Grid Server, and once a Worker finishes processing a task, the Server also stores the result. As data remains on the Server until a client application no longer requires it, a Server needs access to a large data storage.
A processing Worker only stores the data for the duration of processing a task and doesn't need to store any data beyond that. Therefore, the disk-space requirements for a processing Worker are below that of an InstaLOD Grid Server.
Minimum Hardware Recommendations
The following hardware specifications are recommended for both InstaLOD Grid Server or Worker nodes.
- Windows 10 Professional, Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019 with the latest updates and maintenance.
- 64 GB of RAM.
- 2 TB of available disk space on the partition where InstaLOD Pipeline is installed.
- Intel i9 processor with 8-cores or Intel Xeon W CPU with 8-cores.
